NHERI RAPID FACILITY2019 INTENSIVE WORKSHOP

*Description:*

The Natural Hazards Reconnaissance Facility (known as the "RAPID") provides
investigators with the equipment, software, and support services needed to
collect, process, and analyze perishable data from natural hazard events.
On July 23-26, the RAPID will host a hands-on, intensive workshop providing
attendees with the opportunity to develop expertise in using RAPID
equipment to collect data, process the data, and integrate the collected
data through the use of the RAPID mobile software ("RApp") and
DesignSafe-CI.



·       Day 1 will offer an overview of The RAPID, its equipment and
capabilities, and an introduction to reconnaissance planning and data
archiving.

·       Day 2 will provide introductory hands-on training for terrestrial
lidar and drone-based image collection, including an introduction to the
data processing software and methods used to construct 3D point cloud
models from the collected data.

·       Days 3 and 4 will allow workshop participants to select different
tracks from emphasis areas to gain more specialized expertise with
equipment and processes of interest. Potential tracks include (i) site
characterization, (ii) coastal applications, (iii) advanced lidar and UAV
image data collection, and (v) using the RAPID equipment and software to
enhance reconnaissance in the social sciences.



The workshop will conclude with proposal preparation activities that will
emphasize the integration of reconnaissance missions and science across
disciplines.

Applications for this workshop are due on* April 5.* Application review and
notification will be complete by April 19. A limited amount of travel
