*SimCenter Programming Bootcamp August 10-14 & 17-21, 2020*

The third annual SimCenter Programming Bootcamp will be held *ONLINE*
in response to
the COVID-19 pandemic.



Online sessions will be 3 hours each day, 10AM-1PM (PDT), and registration
is open

The goal of this 10-day bootcamp is to train NHERI researchers in
programming paradigms not covered in traditional civil engineering
courseware, but which are needed to advance their capabilities with regard
to simulation for natural hazards engineering. The event is a stimulating
and robust introduction into software programming to facilitate research
outcomes.


*Who should participate?* The target audience is graduate students,
postdocs, and new faculty who are interested in simulating the effects of
natural hazards on building components, structures, and communities. During
the 10-day bootcamp, participants will be instructed by and interact
extensively with the SimCenter’s lead development team. A sampling of
course modules to be offered include:



· Programming in C and C++

· Developing Applications in C and C++

· Parallel Programming for High Performance Computing with MPI

· Programming in Python

· Hands-on Application Development

· Parallel Exercises on TACC's Stampede2 (High Performance Computing)

· Executing Regional Simulations with rWHALE



Each day’s agenda (10AM –1PM. PDT) will include video instruction, online
interactive sessions, hands-on coding exercises, assignments, and
discussions on working within NHERI using SimCenter products. Daily
exercises and a weekend homework activity will be assigned. In
consideration of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the Bootcamp will be an
online format. The final agenda and meeting logistics will be issued to
registrants.
