Right now, NEER is supporting a Field Team led by Navid Jafari (Louisiana
State Univ.) in response to TS Cristobal. The goal of this effort is to
obtain information about the evolution of the coastal marsh ecosystem,
which provides storm protection for local coastal communities, recreational
areas, and an important fishing economy.



Although this is a somewhat small deployment in keeping with social
distancing and other restrictions owing to COVID-19, NEER is interested in
ideas for incorporating social science studies, including residents’
responses to the storm and ecosystem impacts.

To join the #neer Slack channel:

   1. Register for a DesignSafe-CI account using the Register link in the
   upper right at https://www.designsafe-ci.org.
   2. You must confirm your account via a confirmation link that will be
   sent to your email address after registering – check your Junk/Spam if you
   don’t find this email in your Inbox.
   3. They will then invite you to the DesignSafe-CI Slack Team. This is a
   manual operation performed by a human, so it is not immediate and is a
   separate account from your DesignSafe account. You will receive an email
   inviting you to Slack, just click on the link to join. Again, if you don’t
   see this email within a day or 2, please check your SPAM folder.
   4. Once you’ve joined the DesignSafe-CI/slack you can search for a key
   term. If you search on “neer” you will see 2 related slack channels, #neer
   and #neer-hurricane-dorian. The #neer channel will be used for discussions
   of the TS Cristobal deployment (and to announce future events that we are
   tracking or to determine interest in responding on a Field or Home Team).
