practice!*



NHERI at UC San Diego is hosting a two-day workshop that brings together
academic and industry experts in earthquake engineering to discuss research
needs that can immediately impact current building codes and standards and
make use of the newly upgraded 6-DOF Large High-Performance Outdoor Shake
Table (LHPOST6).



The workshop aims to promote academia-industry relations and ultimately map
the future direction of research and operations at UC San Diego's Englekirk
Structural Engineering Center (ESEC).

Your input, in combination with other experts in the field, is essential to
pave the future of earthquake engineering research and practice, including
the development of the next generation of design codes. Come strategize new
ways to solve the grand challenges of earthquake engineering that were not
possible before the upgrade of our new one-of-a-kind LHPOST6 facility.

The objectives of this workshop are to:


   - Promote academia-industry collaborations and identify high priority
   research needs, which would benefit from the newly upgraded NHERI at UC San
   Diego Experimental Facility.
   - Disseminate information on the use of the NHERI at UC San Diego
   Experimental Facility to conduct state‐of‐the‐art research and
   experimentation in natural hazards mitigation.
   - Identify and formulate grand challenge research needs to advance the
   science, technology and practice in earthquake disaster mitigation and
   prevention and to improve seismic design codes and standards.
   - Provide information for preparing NSF proposals which use the NHERI at UC
   San Diego facility.
   - Identify and develop opportunities to utilize the NHERI at UC San Diego
   Experimental Facility.
   - Brainstorm on example uses of the facility given grand challenge
   discussions.
