The National Science Foundation supported research on Natural Hazards under the George E. Brown, Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES), which now has been replaced by the Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure (NHERI) program. The success of the NHERI program hinges in building a community of interested practitioners, researchers, students, educators and policy makers that are fully engaged in all the NHERI activities to increase the resilience of the civil infrastructure and prevent natural hazards from becoming societal disasters.
