Oregon State University NHERI Experimental Facility and RAPID Facility Joint Workshop

July 31 and August 1, 2019.   Corvallis, Oregon

The focus of the workshop is to:


  *   Provide researchers with information on the capabilities of the NHERI HWRL EF and RAPID Facility for advanced natural hazard engineering research.
  *   Provide researchers with updates on the NHERI Science Plan, NSF Workshop on Coastal Research, CONVERGE program, NSF’s Coast and People (CoPe) initiative, and NSF’s 10 Big Ideas.
  *   Provide examples of recent and ongoing NSF projects funded to use the HWRL and other NHERI facilities.
  *   Discuss general strategies for successful proposals, including large collaborative multi-university, multi-investigator project that use more than one NHERI component, CAREER proposals, NSF funding sources beyond CMMI, and EAGER opportunities with existing or planned projects.
  *   Networking opportunities with colleagues working in the area of coastal hazards engineering.

There will be an optional half-day on Day 2 for one-on-one or small team sessions between workshop participants and EF’s team members to discuss research strategies and implementation plans for NSF proposals and/or for additional training on RAPID equipment. This onsite workshop will provide participants with valuable information about the resources and services available at the NHERI EF and RAPID Facility and how to engage the EF for obtaining NSF funding for natural hazards mitigation research and other engineering and science research.

Financial support for travel will be limited and priority will be given to early career faculty and new-users who plan to submit NSF proposals that intend to use the NHERI EF or to re-use data via DesignSafe. Financial support will be limited to two nights hotel and domestic airfare managed by Oregon State up to $1,000 per individual.
