[Nheri-council] Updates needed on 15th and end of month - NHERI Operations Update Status related to COVID-19

Julio,
Thanks for coordinating this effort.
We will keep you updated if there are changes.

No need to change what is on the website – but for everyone on this email thread here is TACC’s current status.
Thus far, the supercomputers at TACC remain normally busy with utilization percentages in the high 90’s and hundreds of jobs queued up. We are prioritizing COVID-19 research, in alignment with the NSF Dear Colleague Letters. Our “non-essential” staff are working remotely thus maintaining our usual user support, and our 24/7 essential staff who monitor the datacenter are reporting to the office.
Here are the NSF DCL’s

Best regards,
Tim

Joy,

We will do as you request.

Council: By this message I am respectfully asking the PIs of all the
NHERI components to regularly check the information about your facility
(https://www.designsafe-ci.org/covid19/) to insure that it is up to date.

Please share with us (Joy, Marti, Dan Z. and I) any changes to the
information provided there. We will then provide the status summary NSF is
requesting on the dates indicated.

Thank you in advance for all your help to keep NSF and the community
informed.

Wishing everyone all the best,
Julio

NSF management is requesting an update on the status of each major facility operations on the 15th of the month and the last day of the month. You have already provided an update for the first half of March with the table the NCO prepared last Friday. I really appreciate the conciseness of the table – that has all the information we need.

Can you all please work with the NCO to update the table at the end of March, April 15, April 30, etc.?

Thank you all very much…stay safe and healthy.

Joy

Thank you, Forrest and Joy!

Council: at the request of Lori we have updated the information
related to CONVERGE: https://www.designsafe-ci.org/covid19/

Let us know whenever you wish to change the status of your facility/component
so that we may keep the information on this matter up to date as much as possible.

Thank you for this update.

All -

The NHERI facilities should follow their institutional guidance on lab operations/closure.
Please keep the NCO and me informed if your lab will close.

Most important - stay safe and healthy.

Starting to see more traffic that university lab research will shut down or scale back, particularly in MA ...

https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2020/3/13/harvard-coronavirus-research-interruptions/

We’re debating the pros and cons of letting two NHERI staff work as “essential personnel” if the university requires a scale back. Wearing my PI hat, I am confident that this can safely be done given the size of the facility, assuming they distance themselves from each other and stay in radio contact. This of course means we will continue to not host visitors.

If you aren’t talking to your admin, it may be worth bringing up before an order comes down.

    Council,

Here is the latest version of the version of the NHERI status related to
    COVID.
Please let me know about any modifications you may wish to make. NSF needs
to know how NHERI is handling the COVID-19.

We plan to publish on DesignSafe-CI no later than tomorrow.

    Thanks,
    Julio
