Description:
You are invited to attend this webinar where you will learn about new resources to manage and publish your data securely and in compliance with data protection best practices. Specifically, participants will learn how to publish data, data collection instruments, and research protocols permanently via the DesignSafe Cyberinfrastructure<https://www.designsafe-ci.org/>.

This brief webinar will also feature three CONVERGE Data Ambassadors<https://converge.colorado.edu/data/events/publish-your-data/data-ambassadors>. They will share their experiences publishing with DesignSafe and lessons learned to help the broader social science and interdisciplinary research community to use this resource. In preparation for the webinar, participants are encouraged to:

  *   Create a DesignSafe Account at https://www.designsafe-ci.org/.
  * View available Publish Your Data! event<https://converge.colorado.edu/data/events/publish-your-data> resources.
  * Meet the CONVERGE Data Ambassadors and review materials<https://converge.colorado.edu/data/events/publish-your-data/data-ambassadors> published by social scientists in the DesignSafe repository.

The webinar is limited to 500 participants, so please register soon! If you cannot attend, the webinar will be recorded and posted on the CONVERGE webinar series page<https://converge.colorado.edu/communications/webinar-series>. Please also remember to sign-up for future events and free resources<https://converge.colorado.edu/signup> at the CONVERGE website.

About DesignSafe<https://www.designsafe-ci.org/>: DesignSafe is a web-based research platform for the NSF-funded Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure (NHERI). DesignSafe provides computational tools needed to manage, analyze, and understand critical data for natural hazards research. It supports research workflows, data analysis, and data visualization.

About the CONVERGE Data Ambassadors Program<https://converge.colorado.edu/data/events/publish-your-data/data-ambassadors>: CONVERGE Data Ambassadors have completed an NSF-supported Publish Your Data! training session. As Data Ambassadors, they have committed to publishing their own data and instruments on DesignSafe in order to share newly attained knowledge with other researchers and practitioners in the hazards and disaster field. CONVERGE Data Ambassadors will help usher in a culture shift toward data publication and data and instrument sharing across disciplines.

Hi NHERI Council and EF staff:

I thought I would bring this DesignSafe Tutorial to your attention. This presentation will highlight how UC Davis is using Python and Jupyter notebooks during their experiments to make real-time decisions regarding the next testing phase. I think there is a lot of potential for the other NHERI EFs to incorporate similar workflows at their sites.

Registration is required for the webinar and the link is given below.

Regards,
Ellen

Experimental Data Workflow for Real Time Decision Making Using Python and Jupyter Notebooks
February 3, 2021
1PM TO 2:00PM Central Time
Trevor Carey, PhD

About the Tutorial
This webinar focuses on experimental data workflow for real time decision making during experiments using an example from the Center for Geotechnical Modeling. By leveraging Python and Jupyter notebook tools, data collected during experimental testing can be processed and synthesized to make informed real time decisions about immediate next phases of testing. Development of data workflow routines strengthens the data collected by defining specific experimental response parameters during experimental design.

About the Presenters
Trevor Carey is a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California Davis. His primary research interests are in physical and numerical modeling of liquefaction hazards. He has performed several liquefaction centrifuge experiments at the Center for Geotechnical Modeling during his PhD and Postdoc.
