Dear Colleagues and Friends:
The MECHS webinar series, Hybrid Simulation 101, will begin with an
introduction to this experimental technique presented by Prof. Gaby Ou on
Friday, June 8th.
MECHS stands for Multi-hazard Engineering Collaboratory on Hybrid
Simulation.
Prof. Ou was an author of the Hybrid Simulation Primer, now posted on the
<https://mechs.designsafe-ci.org/>MECHS site
<https://mechs.designsafe-ci.org>, and she also developed the Robust
Integrated Actuator Controller (RIAC).
Best regards,
MECHS Team

Hybrid simulation is a powerful class of experimental techniques that
couples physical experimentation with computational simulation. This
approach enables a detailed examination of complex engineering
systems while imposing realistic conditions on the selected, often unknown,
physical subsystems. Originally pioneered in the field of
earthquake engineering, this approach is increasingly being adopted and
utilized for a variety of purposes in our laboratories. This webinar will
provide an introduction to the range of methods in this class, the
essential components needed to perform a hybrid simulation, a few recent
experiments performed using this method, and a readily available sample
code / learning tool that is available. The webinar is intended for new
users to gain experience with the use of real-time hybrid simulation.
This webinar is the first in a series, Hybrid Simulation 101, being
organized by the Multi-hazard Engineering Collaboratory on Hybrid
Simulation (MECHS) virtual community (see: https://mechs.designsafe-ci.org).
This webinar will be recorded, and the link will be posted on the MECHS
website.
The NHERI network and the DesignSafe CI are funded by multiple grants from
the National Science Foundation.
