*What: *The NHERI Computational Modeling and Simulation Center (SimCenter)
is hosting its first annual *SimCenter Training in Natural Hazards
Engineering (NHE) *June 13 -14, 2019. The goal of the workshop is to
introduce new capabilities with regards to simulation for natural hazards
engineering. This is a unique, hands-on event to learn about the effective
use of research applications developed by the SimCenter.

*When: *June 13 &14
*Where:* UC Berkeley Richmond Field Station
*Details:* Find details and register at the SimCenter website
<https://www.eiseverywhere.com/ereg/index.php?eventid=421793&>.

Need-based financial support is available for a limited number of
participants for travel, meal, and lodging expenses. The application for
aid is available in the registration page and must be complete by *May 10,
2019*.

*Registration closes May 30, 2019, or when the maximum number of attendees
is reached. Participants are encouraged to register early. Space is
limited.*

The target audience is graduate students interested in simulating the
effects of natural hazards on building components, structures, and
communities. During the two-day workshop held at UC Berkeley's Richmond
Field Station, participants will be instructed by and interact extensively
with the SimCenter’s lead development team. By the workshop's conclusion,
participants will be familiar with capabilities of newly released software
to facilitate research in NHE. A sampling of the workshop agenda includes:

   - Uncertainty Quantification in NHE
   - Earthquake Engineering
   - Performance-Based Engineering
   - Theory and Hands-on Exercises
   - Simulating the Effect of Natural Hazards on a Regional Scale
   - Utilizing High Performance Computing resources at NHERI through
   SimCenter Tools

Refreshments at breaks and lunch will be provided. The $20 registration fee
will be refunded at the conclusion of the event for full
attendance. Graduate students and postdoctoral researchers from
under-represented groups are especially encouraged to attend. The final
agenda and logistics will be issued to registrants.
