NHERI Wall of Wind User Workshop, Dec 4-5

The NHERI Wall of Wind (WOW) Experimental Facility (EF) will be hosting a
one-and-a-half-day user workshop at Florida International University (FIU),
in Miami, Florida, on December 4-5, 2019. The focus of the workshop is to:

   1. Provide researchers with information on the capabilities of the NHERI
   WOW EF for advanced natural hazard engineering research.
   2. Explore opportunities to use the NHERI WOW EF for unsolicited,
   CAREER, and other types of NSF proposals -- one session will be dedicated
   to “Preparing a Competitive NSF Proposals (including CAREER Proposals)”.
   3. Describe the procedures to perform large- and full-scale experiments
   at the NHERI WOW EF using various instrumentation and PIV techniques.
   4. Provide one-on-one sessions between EF’s team members and workshop
   participants to discuss research ideas and experimentation plans for NSF
   proposals.
   5. Discuss the NHERI Science Plan focusing on key research areas
   emerging in natural hazard engineering.

This onsite workshop will provide participants with valuable information
about the resources and services available at the NHERI WOW EF and how to
better engage the experimental resources for obtaining NSF funding for
natural hazards mitigation and other basic science research. Also, the
workshop will include a tour of the NHERI WOW EF and a demonstration of the
EF capabilities.

Financial support for travel will be provided. The travel funds are limited
and priority will be given to faculty planning to submit NSF proposals that
intend to use the NHERI WOW EF. Financial support for attending the
workshop will be awarded in order of registration (hotel and flight
arrangements will be managed by FIU up to $868 per individual).
