Dear REU Students:

Great job at the Natural Hazards Workshop and Researchers Meeting!

Lori Peek shared some pictures that she took at the poster presentations. Here is a link and a note from her email message:

They were so very wonderful, and what an honor it was to welcome them to Colorado! https://www.facebook.com/lori.peek/media_set?set=a.10217659335569428&type=3<https://nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Flori.peek%2Fmedia_set%3Fset%3Da.10217659335569428%26type%3D3&data=02%7C01%7Ckarina.vielma%40utsa.edu%7Cefd0e3459f8b443bd86e08d70d67d983%7C3a228dfbc64744cb88357b20617fc906%7C0%7C0%7C636992612017505197&sdata=SdreT3T%2F46hnv4yWon6ibE0Pi1GS1lYunqWDLIXjc0Q%3D&reserved=0>

Dear Lori,

You are very welcome! The students had wonderful things to say about the conference. They were so happy to have this opportunity, and thanks to you, it was made possible.

I am so happy that we started working together, and I am sure we will have many more opportunities to put our heads together and continue to provide access to experiences like this to even more students. Please think of me in the future when you need help with educational initiatives, especially for underrepresented students and women...and even if it's just to brainstorm.

And...It's easy to show love to you! You're great and interact with everyone with such genuine care. This is why the workshop was a success and why our students felt so welcomed and excited to share their work.

Thank you again and I look forward to continuing to work together.

Sincerely,

Karina

Dearest Karina,

Okay, I am *totally* blown away by the students. Their posters were amazing and they were amazing and you are amazing! Then on top of it all, you found time to get that picture printed and to share the most heartfelt card. I will treasure this always, and plan to put the picture in a frame.

*Thank you* from the bottom of my heart for being a champion for the diverse next generation. You are so brilliant - obviously - yet also so unassuming and kind to everyone around you.

What a gift to know you.

Hugs, always,
Lori
