Dear REU Students:

Here is useful information about the REU Presentations and Poster Sessions.

RESEARCH PRESENTATION
Prepare a 15-minute presentation of your REU research (~15 slides). Include the following information in your slides:


1.      Title slide (Presenter, mentor/s, university, NHERI site, project title)

2.      Introduction (Background, problem statement, research questions, motivation/rationale, purpose of the study)

3.      Instrumentation and materials (include graphs, diagrams, etc)

4.      Methodology

5.      Results (include tables, graphs, charts)

6.      Discussion (what was found, why is this important, cite previous studies and results)

7.      Future research (optional: what still needs to be researched, what questions remain, what studies may be feasible as a result of this study)

8.      Learning Outcomes (how did working at a NHERI site enhance your knowledge on natural hazards; based on your research experience, provide an example of how you would apply engineering principles to reduce natural hazard impacts on communities; how did the REU program influence your willingness to engage in careers related to natural hazard engineering?)

9.      Acknowledgements & citations

RESEARCH POSTER
Prepare a research poster (see attached template). The posters should be 3 ft x 4 ft. and should include the following summarized information:
*        Introduction
*        Materials/Instrumentation
*        Methodology
*        Results (Preliminary Results and/or Observations for REU 2)
*        Discussion
*        References
*        Acknowledgements

PRACTICE PRESENTATIONS
We will be practicing presentations during the July 31st and August 1st.  Please see the attached file for details on when you will be practicing your presentation.  You must attend the presentation before yours and the presentation after yours.  Log in early! Do not be late!  You will be giving feedback to two of your peers.

Some questions you will be considering during the presentations as you critique your peers:
               Is the presentation clear?
               What areas need to be clarified?
               How can the presentation be strengthened?
               Are any essential items missing?
