Dear NHERI REU Alumni,

How are you? It’s been a while since we last connected, and the world has changed a lot. I hope your paths have led you to some fun experiences after the NHERI REU summer we spent together. I wanted to check in and see how you are doing. Please write back and let me know what you’re up to.

Also, we have a great opportunity to attend the ACWE Conference on May 17-19, 2022. They are looking for interdisciplinary research presentations (so you don’t have to be in wind engineering to participate). We are also looking for panelist to talk about their career paths. It’s time to share all the wonderful experiences you’ve had with others! Pay it forward!

The best part is that we are securing funding for NHERI REU alumni to attend! Here is more information about the conference: https://www.depts.ttu.edu/nwi/14ACWE/. If you are interested, reach out to me and/or apply at https://bit.ly/2022NHERI_Panels.

I hope you have been well, and I look forward to hearing an update from you soon!

Sincerely,
Karina Vielma

P.S. Here is my update. I am an Assistant Professor of Engineering Education at the University of Texas at San Antonio. My daughter is about to turn 11! I feel old 😐. During the early pandemic months, I worked from home while she went to school virtually. It was a mess. I’ve received a couple of grants to do more research in engineering education around mentoring and broadening participation aka helping bring in more diverse students into engineering. I have a few of you on social media platforms, which I don’t check too often…but when I do, I feel so proud of all that you are doing. If you get a chance to attend the conference in Lubbock, I will see you there. <3
