Data Use Case Meeting
December 14, 2020
Attendees: Ellen, Fred, Soundarya, Laura, Youngkyu, Si, Mahyar, Scott, Gilberto, Pedro, Natalie
NOTES:
Updates
Gilberto
* In the spring we were supposed to reopen the shake table but that has been delayed until September; will have to get another student around that will be around for longer
* MATLAB to Jupyter transition; MATLAB more stable but ease of interaction in Jupyter notebook; there are benefits of each but in DesignSafe Jupyter is more seamless
* Develop the template for the upcoming test, want to work on a template that is well commented and make it easy for users can use to adapt it and quickly change it to their project;
* Focus on having well documented scripts
* Machine learning tools on system identification of a structure
* Would benefit data reuse
Fred
* Tag It - basic tagging feature is almost done; looked at tagging just a region in a photo but that was difficult to make work well;
* CVAT open source code; Nathan and Joe will get it on DesignSafe
* Working on the photo browsing aspect
* biggest obstacle it is heavy on the coding side so there is a lot of background work going on
* Who can we ask for help in development if needed? Check with Ellen/Tim/Nathan
Laura
* New student is creating jupyter notebook that will apply different models to a dataset that we have and evaluated different modeling approaches; This will probably take the next 3 months
* He did a computing class in the fall quarter and is in the SimCenter bootcamp this week; then we will look to expand the dataset
* Action: switch Laura and student from HPC to Jupyter use case group
Soundarya
* Experimental test with WoW at FIU in January; want to develop new Jupyter notebooks on DesignSafe to take a closer look at the numbers and come up with new objectives for the next Wall of Wind test
* Database work - will get to that after the WoW data analysis is done
* Work with the right person at TACC on the databases, check with Mahyar he can coordinate; Harika can also assist
* TACC supports mysql and postgress
Scott
* Webinar in February by Trevor Carey, he led workshop on python and Jupyter; make sure the EFs know about this webinar
* NGL modeling project is underway; have at least 4 people working with the data using Jupyter to query it
* Steve Kramer will try it; need folks to adapt and write their own queries
* Couple modeling teams interested in geospatial data will try to have a meeting with them to show how the NGL database could be integrated
* Ken Hudson working with laboratory data, taking class on machine learning and AI
