It makes sense. It would be great if we can get OpenFOAM v2012 or higher versions. This way student can easily use it for the class. Is there any way that I can start the process? I am not sure how it works in the DesignSafe. Thank you again for all your help.
Best,
Mehrshad

Hello Mehrshad,
Technically it is possible to compile OlaFlow/Wave2Foam but you will need to get the path to the library. Secondly, I am not sure how the compatibility of these toolboxes are with the latest versions of OpenFOAM. There are lots of things that are breaking compatibility with v9 and v10.
However, it will be much easier and would not need any compilation or compatibility issues if we can get OpenFOAM v2012 or higher versions.
Last I saw, we only had the foundation versions of OpenFOAM (v7, 8, 9...). So best could be to explore if we can also get OpenFOAM (v2012 and above) since these are also open-source.
Sincerely
Ajay

Thanks Ajay. It was very helpful.
So, is it still possible to run the code on the DesignSafe? I am asking since we want to use OpenFOAM in the DesignSafe. I think it is not possible since we cannot compile OlaFlow/Wave2Foam directly there. Is it right?
Best,
Mehrshad

Hello Dr. Amini,
Thank you very much for writing to me. I would recommend using the latest version of OpenFOAM (ESI version - openfoam.com) rather than the foundation version (openfoam.org). I do think that OlaFlow does a good job by the ESI version already has much of these capabilities in-built into the actual OF. This could reduce a lot of work to compile OlaFlow/Wave2Foam itself.
Best Regards
Ajay

Subject: New solver in OpenFOAM
Hi Ajay,
I hope you are doing well.
I am Mehrshad, postdoc scholar at Oregon State University. I plan to use OpenFOAM implemented in DesignSafe as a new module in the class that I am teaching this term. The class is a graduate-level course that covers the fundamental of prediction of wave forces on different structures.
I have read the CFD Notebooks that you developed for DesignSafe. However, I was wondering if there is a way to compile new solvers such as Wave2Foam or Olaflow for the OpenFOAM that developed in DesignSafe. These two solvers (particularly Wave2Foam that I am familiar with) are very suitable to simulate the wave-structure interaction. I could not find any tips on the DesignSafe website.
I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.
Best,
Mehrshad
