Menq and Robert,
Very interesting – I found an M4V file on DesignSafe in an old NEES published project and tried to preview it and it did not work. So I copied that file to My Data so I could rename with .mp4 extension since you said the two formats are similar, and then I was able to preview it.

Tim,
From Robert:
Our files are M4V which is essentially the same as MP4. I suspect they will play in DesignSafe without issue.
Thank you,

We are implementing a video viewing capability in the portal that is currently working in our Development environment and will be in our next production release. It initially supports .mp4, .ogg, and .webm formats which are formats that browsers readily support.
What additional video file formats should we be considering to support your facility?
Thanks,
Tim
