Join NHERI GSC and SimCenter as we present PART I of the Research Tool Workshop Series with Dr. Kuanshi Zong as he shares the SimCenter EE-UQ tool on structural response analysis under earthquake ground motion.
Session Abstract:
Recorded ground motions from past earthquake events are commonly used in time history analysis to estimate structural responses, which is an essential step of structural performance evaluation in seismic design and retrofitting. To represent the seismic hazard and ground motion characteristics at a building site, the ground motions used in analysis need to be properly selected and scaled. This presentation will introduce the implementation of ground motion selection and scaling in SimCenter EE-UQ application as a streamlined workflow along with structural time history analysis. The available options of target spectra, scaling methods, and physical constraints (e.g., earthquake magnitude, ground motion duration) in the application will be illustrated by an example case study investigating duration effects on reinforcing bar fatigue damage in a bridge column.
