Dear NHERI Council Members:

If you have ever wondered what the IRB is, and why it is necessary for social science or other research involving human subjects, I have a resource to share with you! Our newest CONVERGE Training Module is focused on IRB Procedures and Extreme Events research. We will hold a brief 30 minute webinar next week. We hope you and members of your NHERI component can join us. Thank you in advance for sharing this announcement through your networks as appropriate! Kindest regards, Lori

CONVERGE IRB Procedures and Extreme Events Research Training Module and Demo Webinar

The NHERI-CONVERGE facility, headquartered at the Natural Hazards Center at the University of Colorado Boulder, is excited to announce the release of a fourth CONVERGE Training Module that focuses on Institutional Review Board (IRB) Procedures and Extreme Events Research. You can register for the free online module here: <http://converge-training.colorado.edu/courses/cultural-competence/> https://converge.colorado.edu/training-modules.

To learn more about this new module, please join us Thursday, June 25, 2020, from 12:00-12:30 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time for a live webinar where our team will provide a demonstration of the CONVERGE IRB Procedures and Extreme Events Research Training Module. To register for the upcoming webinar, please visit: https://cuboulder.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_NFa_5WpkTHuWLLJJxhqIDA.

This IRB module is part of a larger series of online modules designed to accelerate the training of a diverse hazards and disaster workforce. These interactive, 30- to 60-minute courses cover a variety of topics that researchers and practitioners can use to quickly background themselves on the purpose of the IRB, the application process, and specific IRB challenges that arise in the context of extreme events research. Upon successful completion of a 10 question quiz, users receive a certificate (so these can be useful for classroom assignments as well as other activities - see the CONVERGE Assignment Bank for more details at https://converge.colorado.edu/resources/training-modules/assignment-bank).

You can sign up for free resources and additional updates at the CONVERGE website at: https://converge.colorado.edu/signup. Thank you!
