The NHERI Wall of Wind (WOW) Experimental Facility (EF) and the NHERI
Natural Hazards Reconnaissance Facility (referred to as the “RAPID
Facility") will be hosting a one-and-a-half day user workshop at Florida
International University (FIU), in Miami. The focus of the workshop is to:

   1. Provide researchers with information on the capabilities of the NHERI
   WOW EF and RAPID EF for advanced natural hazard engineering research
   2. Explore opportunities to use the NHERI EFs for unsolicited, CAREER,
   and other types of NSF proposals -- one session will be dedicated to
   “Preparing Competitive NSF Proposals (including CAREER Proposals)”
   3. Describe the procedures to perform large- and full-scale experiments
   using the NHERI WOW EF and use the RAPID EF and its tools for planning
   reconnaissance efforts
   4. Provide one-on-one sessions between EFs’ team members and workshop
   participants to discuss research ideas and experimentation plans for NSF
   proposals
   5. Discuss the Science Plan focusing on key research areas emerging in
   natural hazard engineering
   6. Provide a platform for collaboration to facilitate
   multi-disciplinary, multi-hazards research


This onsite workshop will provide faculty members with valuable information
about the resources and services available at the NHERI WOW and RAPID EFs,
and how to better engage the EFs for obtaining NSF funding for natural
hazards mitigation research and other basic science research. Also, the
workshop will include a tour of the NHERI WOW EF facility and a live test
demonstration of the two EFs’ capabilities. Participation and financial
support for travel will be limited and priority will be given to faculty
planning to submit NSF proposals that intend to use the NHERI WOW and/or
RAPID EFs. Financial support for attending the workshop will be awarded in
order of registration. We look forward to welcoming you to our upcoming
