Hi Julio:
This is a workshop specifically about cyberinfrastructure for large facilities. You are thinking about the cybersecurity summit for large facilities, which is only focused on cybersecurity. The workshop that Joy is a follow-on to a 2017 workshop that brought together the CI components from different MREFC projects to "enable direct and synergistic interactions among the NSF large facilities and the CI communities to jointly address the CI needs as well as the sustainability of the CI of existing and future large facilities." I was on the organizing committee for that workshop, Tim Cockerill and Dan Stanzione also attended from DesignSafe, and a couple of the EFs were represented.
I believe the reason that Joy is asking all the components to participate is because the workshop organizers want to hear from the users of CI about their needs, as well as hearing from DesignSafe. But I can't be sure, because she did not ask us about it before sending out this email. Perhaps it is worth asking clarification from Joy.
As an FYI-I am in Rome at a conference at the moment, so won't be very responsive to emails. It would be great if you could take the lead in reaching out to Joy.
Thanks,
Ellen

Ellen and Tim,
Please correct me if I am wrong, but is this not the workshop to which each of the facilities sent a person
the first couple times and then after that the CI team was just sending one person for the whole
program to represent all the facilities? This is the first I'm hearing of switching back to
sending 11 people and possibly adding CONVERGE.
Could you please clarify this for us? Joy sent the note directly to the Council instead of just DesignSafe.
Thanks!
Julio

Dear NHERI Council:
The NSF Facility CI workshop will be held on September 16-17, 2019, at the Alexandrian Hotel in Alexandria, VA.
Website: http://www.facilitiesci.org/.
As soon as possible (ideally by NEXT WEEK) the organizers need to receive names to invite from each facility:
- At least one person in a CI managing position (who can speak authoritatively about it)
- At least one person who can speak authoritatively about the future science of the facility (and associated needs for computing, data etc.).
The agenda will be built around this, and topics assembled from their survey, http://tinyurl.com/facilitiesci.
Please send those names directly to deelman at isi.edu<mailto:deelman at isi.edu> and fill out the survey.
Thank you.
Joy
